Description
Community Urgent and Minor Eye Service Enables patients to self-refer to an Optometrist of choice in the Community when they have a minor eye condition. Service provides care to patients for a range of minor eye conditions and has the ability to refer directly into Hospital Eye Services if clinically indicated. It reduces the burden on General Practice, Hospital Eye Services and provides care closer to home for patients. Continuation will ensure much-needed stability to services that are under sustained pressure and which are fundamental in supporting Hospital Eye Services. Approximately 13,000 patients are expected to used this service each year. Commissioners satisfied existing provider has delivered expected service requirements and will continue to satisfy ongoing service requirements. There have been no considerable changes to the contract or service. In line with recently announced clustering of ICBs (Derby & Derbyshire, Nottingham & Nottinghamshire, and Lincolnshire) service continuity is required. The process is in alignment with the NHS 10 Year Plan which has a focus on providing more care outside of hospitals.
