Description
As part of the UKRRIN, Rolling Stock Centre Initiative, Newcastle University's Design Unit have been awarded a grant by HEFCE to design and build a bespoke, state of the art Dynamic Gearbox Test Facility including a climate chamber for testing of gearboxes and traction drives in extreme environments. There is a requirement to bench mark gearboxes and associated gear elements at the beginning and end of test programs. Gears and gearboxes require the highest standards of geometry measurement to ensure the performance interms of strength, reliability and noise is achieved. The UK National Gear Metrology Laboratory (NGML) in one of the leading gear measurement and calibration facilities worldwide. We have a requirement for a new CMM to extend our general measurement and gear inspection capacity and research activities. At present all gear related metrology work is performed on a single Gear Measuring Machine (GMM). A CMM would expand the scope of the UK National Gear Metrology Laboratory. The scope of this contract is for the supply, delivery and installation of equipment and as detailed in the Invitation to Tender document to the University, with after-sales support and 12 months warranty and maintenance, all training necessary for safe and reliable operation of the system
