Description
Historic England (HE) (officially the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England) is an executive non-departmental public body of the UK Government sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS). It is tasked with protecting the historic environment of England and advising central and local government on historic environment matters. The 2016 Culture White Paper proposed that Historic England work with local authorities to enhance and rationalise national and local heritage records so that communities and developers would have easy access to historic environment records. In response, HE has developed a series of projects that aim to simplify access to heritage information under the umbrella of the Heritage Information Access Strategy (HIAS); a business and culture change programme for those involved in the production and handling of heritage information.
