Description

JNCC's Overseas Territory and wider international project implementation work has several strategic objectives, including: • Supporting UK Government policy for climate change mitigation in the Overseas Territories and developing countries, protecting and enhancing livelihoods and biodiversity through effective use of UK Government investments. • Maximising the value of time and money invested in future work programmes through use of evidence from previous UK Government investment directed through JNCC, with a focus on areas of prior activity and success in use of tools and approaches in the Caribbean and Latin America, working at a wide range of latitudes, scales, social and cultural settings with Government, NGO, academic and private sectors partners. The contract will help JNCC: • identify landscape scale environmental pressures facing partner countries and OTs based on the opinions and experience of people living and working in these landscapes; • identify and refine successful tools and supporting approaches used by JNCC and capable of securing enduring beneficial change and impact at landscape scales through working partnerships in developing countries and the Overseas Territories; • focus on the use of tools and approaches used by JNCC applicable in the land use sector (agriculture, forestry, water resource management etc) and associated coastal and nearshore marine environments. • through an analysis of work done to date, identify the mitigation potential (impacts) of potential interventions, including investment needs, co-benefits to livelihoods and biodiversity, cost-effectiveness, and barriers that hold back effective actions and strategies to overcome these.
