Description
The DfE have commissioned the ETF to conduct a research project which aims to increase our understanding of what works in teaching English. This project will also explore the Centres for Excellence in Maths (CfEM) programme and consider how this could benefit teachers of English. The research will be undertaken with DfE grant funding during 2021-22. This Sector English Strategy study is a first attempt to explore the delivery of English teaching and CPD in the further education and skills (FES) sector. This is a wide-ranging area of delivery with little prior research to draw on, the aim of the study is to establish the broad outlines of delivery in the English classroom, both what works well and what needs to be improved; and from there what the priorities for CPD should be and what approaches may best suit the needs of teachers and managers in the sector. While the sector is and may be struggling with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on delivery, the focus of this study will be as much as possible on the normal and long-term delivery of English language teaching.
