Description
This project benefits urban Leicester, one of Britain’s most diverse cities providing opportunities to learn more about how Natural Flood management (NFM) measures operate within the constraints of heavily modified river systems. The re-naturalisation of channels and new wetland creation is interpreted with existing retention features which cannot be easily returned to a more natural state. It provides a chance to soften the landscape and connect our diverse people to the urban water courses through engagement and citizen science. A successful joint bid with the Trent Rivers trust was submitted to the Environment Agency for the Leicester Urban NFM project to be included in the Natural Flood Management Programme.
