The Sheffield Royce Institute is a~£34M project based in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Sheffield is part of the national Henry Royce Institute (with the main Hub in Manchester) which aims to grow the UK world-leading research and innovation base in advanced materials science, fundamental to all industrial sectors and the national economy. The Sheffield Royce Institute focuses on Advanced Materials Processing and will be delivered through two centres - the Royce Discovery Centre (RDC) and the Royce Translational Centre (RTC). These state of the art facilities will allow materials discovery, materials manufacturing and prototype production and will act as an open access centre of excellence for the UK. As part of the Henry Royce Institute for Advanced Materials, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at The University of Sheffield would like to purchase a small-scale strip caster with the capacity to melt up to about 100g of various metals and alloys and to produce width of ribbons up to 20mm.
