Description
The Borough Council of Newcastle-under-Lyme is seeking to procure the services of a provider for the kennelling of stray dogs which have either been collected by the Borough Council's Dog Warden Service or found by members of the public. On average Dog Wardens collect about 150 strays per year. Strays need to be held for up to a seven day statutory period during which time owners may come forward to reclaim their dogs. In previous years about half the dogs we collect were reclaimed. After seven days attempts should be made to re-home unclaimed dogs. The Kennelling Service Provider ensures that the Borough Council is able to fulfil its statutory function in connection with the collection of stray dogs, but will also ensure animal welfare objectives are met.
