Description
Data from the Deep is the working title for a proposed Research, Engineering and Innovation Company focused on enabling exploration and the understanding of the world's oceanic ecosystems. Specifically, it meets a clearly identified need for new types of instrumentation that will enable the acquisition of deep water images, other data, and samples: efficiently, effectively, and, most critically, affordably. It is based on prototype instrumentation developed by Dr Alan Jamieson and his team, now in the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences at Newcastle University, and proven in the most hostile environments, with very positive results. The proposed company would develop these instruments for wider adoption, secure their manufacture, market and distribute them, and support and enable their application, including through technical advice. The person appointed to lead the company formation and development will have experience in business start-ups, marketing, innovation and fund raising. They would preferably have experience in the marine technology and engineering industries, including new product development and first market introductions. Ideally, they would also have links with potential partner companies and investors.
