Description
he OSNAP project maintains an array of moorings between Greenland and Scotland. The moorings are equipped with self-logging instruments in the form of conductivity temperature and depth recorders (CTDs) and current meters. The moorings stay in the water initially for one year at a time, but for some deployments this is extended up to two years, with the attached instrumentation measuring oceanographic parameters and recording the data internally. NOC has substantial experience with deploying moored scientific equipment. Of paramount importance for projects that leave self-logging equipment unattended for long periods of time is the reliability of not only the individual instruments but also the mooring components that are essential to maintain the instruments in their desired positions The project has a requirement for new instrumentation to better measure the currents in the Rockall Trough.
