Description
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has a requirement for a Survey grade Global Positioning System to accurately determine a position on the Earth's surface and to establish and ensure the accuracy of a Hydrographic Survey as well as to position land based objects so that they can be used for Navigation purposes. This is essential to Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and to meet Defence Task (DT) requirements. Current Royal Navy (RN) Hydrographic land based Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) capability is invested in the Trimble (manufacturere) R7 (model) receivers. The R7 has been in service for the past 10 years and additional units are now required to be purchased to support R7 units as they reach end of life over the next few years. The R7 replacement must be interoperable with the existing equipment.
