Description

The A46 Newark Bypass is a complex major infrastructure improvement scheme being developed by National Highways to widen a 6.5km stretch of the A46 to dual carriageway from the Farndon Roundabout to the Winthorpe Roundabout. Skanska are currently preparing the scheme budget for National Highways, and wish to engage with the supply chain to support this budget pricing exercise. This package includes the widening of a section of the Grade II listed Smeaton's Arches to facilitate the construction of a new grade seperated Cattle Market Roundabout in Newark on Trent. About Smeaton's Arches: Built 1770s: widened 1920s - The Arches carry the A616, once the Great North Road, over the River Trent valley from Newark north west to South Muskham, in an area prone to regular flooding. Its arches are mostly 3.7m wide, and 1.8m high from foundation level to springer. The passageways through the arches are 10.1m long, across the width of the road.
