Description
Worcestershire County Council maintains more than 1400 bridges and retaining walls within the county. Several of these structures cross watercourses of various size. As Highway Authority, the Council has a duty under the Highways Act 1982 to ensure all its structures are safe for public use, and as such has adopted the document "Well-Managed Highway Infrastructure: A Code of Practice", as well as documents contained within the Design Manual for Roads and Bridge (DMRB). Underwater inspections are required to be carried out to structures over watercourses which are too deep or too long to be inspected under normal General or Principal Inspections as described with in DMRB Volume 3, Section 1, Part3, BD63/17 Inspection of Highway Structures.
