Description
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines on ADHD provides a framework for best practice and individualised care for young people, Adults and their families. The NICE, (March 2018) Overview/Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: diagnosis and management/Guidance/NICE recommend medication as the first line of treatment for adults with ADHD. Medication is effective in reducing the symptoms of ADHD in up to 80 % of patients and should only be initiated by an appropriately qualified healthcare professional with skill and expertise in ADHD. We are looking to commission an independent provider to deliver a NICE compliant model of medical care to address the current backlog of waiters. It is recognised that this will not meet the non-pharmacological interventions, as indicated in the NICE guidance, for those who do not respond to medical intervention.
