Description
This is a partnership agreement between Natural England and West Cumbria Rivers Trust, the purpose of which is to contribute a number of SSSI remedies for management impacting on the interest features of the River Derwent and tributaries and Bassenthwaite Lake SSSI's. The project will contribute to the River Corridor Group (RCG) which is delivered in partnership with West Cumbria Rivers Trust, the Environment Agency and local angling groups. This project plans and delivers management projects across the Derwent catchment. This includes river bank stabilisation, riparian fencing, woody debris instillation, tree planting and smaller assisted natural recovery based projects. The project will include the completion of a number of projects which are assessed by the RCG project board against a scoring matrix, with only the projects having the greatest impact on site condition continuing to delivery. This will include works to the riparian strip including fencing and planting, in-channel works including woody debris and gravel introduction projects and small scale river restoration projects delivered through assisted natural recovery methods. All practical projects delivered under this project will have a positive impact on interest features of the SSSI/ SAC.
