Description
This research project aims to build the evidence base on the range of non-market impacts of investing in R&D and in particular how the significance of these impacts might vary between different technology areas (e.g. Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund challenge areas or key innovative technology areas identified by bodies such as the OECD). The main research questions this research project aims to answer are the following: • What types of non-market impacts on society are associated with innovations resulting from investing in R&D? • How does the presence and prevalence of non-market impacts of R&D vary by area of science and technology (including ISCF technology challenge areas)? Objectives of this research project are to: • Identify the non-market benefits of investing in R&D; • Develop a typology of non-market impacts of R&D; • Analyse and provide evidence on these impacts and their prevalence and presence across various R&D technology areas (e.g. Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund challenge areas or key innovative technology areas identified by bodies such as the OECD); • Highlight areas in which further research is needed in order to strengthen the evidence base.
