The second stage will comprise the open-hole excavation of the original well location to a depth of approximately 5.5m below ground level; the logging of the sidewalls and recording of any oil seepage into the excavation and the segregation and testing of gross contaminated soil followed by the verification sampling of the excavation base and sidewalls. A sump will be used to pump and collect LNAPL and contaminated water until the source is removed. A third stage of remediation within the scope of works may be required depending on the results of the first two stages of remediation.
