Description

The Lower Thames Crossing (LTC) will be a new road crossing connecting Kent, Thurrock and Essex. Approximately 14.5 miles (23km) in length, it will connect to the existing road network from the A2/M2 to the M25 with two tunnels (one southbound and one northbound) running beneath the River Thames.  5G wireless technology is currently being deployed in public cellular mobile communication networks across the UK. 5G provides a plethora of new capabilities, most notably enhanced mobile broadband data rates, ultra-reliable low latency communications and the support of massive machine-type device deployments. Private 5G networks are emerging as a transformational technology, unlocking new levels of productivity and efficiency for businesses operating in a wide range of industrial and commercial sectors. The use of 5G technology by the construction industry will support the deployment and integration of advanced technologies such as Autonomous machinery, improving operational efficiency and reducing costs. In Transportation, 5G enables fast and reliable communications between vehicles and infrastructure enhancing real time data exchange for smart traffic management and autonomous vehicle applications. Accordingly, LTC wish to commission a study into the technical feasibility and commercial viability of deploying a 5G private network to support the construction and ongoing operation of the Lower Thames Crossing.
