Description
Derbyshire County Council is delivering a joint Natural Flood Management Scheme with the Environment Agency to install engineered log jams or 'leaky dams' on Ollersett Moor near New Mills, Derbyshire (Piece Farm, Overhill Road, New Mills, SK22 4QL). The New Mills area is situated within a steep sided catchment and has been affected by a number of historical flood events. The 'leaky dams' will enable water to pass through the structures in low flows but will retain and hold back flows in flood conditions to reduce the impacts to communities and properties downstream. The "Leaky Dams" are to be situated on the upper moorland areas, which are around 400m above sea level. The Works will include the construction of 6 Nr Engineered Log Jam structures as detailed in the associated Documentation and Drawings.
