Description
There is a requirement for the supplier to build up and retain a strong corporate knowledge of BS combined with legal expertise to manage complex and contentious cases. Very few BS documents remain, so a key requirement is the ability to develop an understanding of the complex corporate history of British Shipbuilders. The personal injury claims are in relation to industrial related diseases or injuries such as Mesothelioma, asbestosis, pleural plaques (in Scotland), pleural thickening, lung cancer, vibration white figure and deafness. The long latency periods for the development of asbestos related diseases means that we expect to receive personal injury claims until 2050. The claims currently amount to around £6-7 million per year. Strategic Objective To provide a flexible and robust contract for legal advice and claims handling services which meets both the business as usual and any future litigation requirements of the Department, and provides Value for Money ("VFM") over the entire contract. It is recognised that delivering the above successfully will require the supplier to maintain a strong corporate knowledge of the former corporation and its many subsidiaries.
