Description
The Medical Research Council (MRC) is an organisation dedicated to improving human health. The organisation supports research across the entire spectrum of medical science, in universities and hospitals, in its own units, centres and institutes in the UK, and in units in Africa. The MRC's main Unit in The Gambia is situated in Fajara, Kombo St. Mary's, approximately nine miles from the capital Banjul. The Unit operates over a 100 acre site which consists of research and clinical laboratory facilities (up to ACDP containment level 3), the Unit is also home to the busy clinical services department, the Unit's biobank, as well as approximately 40 residential units of various sizes. A number of new facilities are proposed across the Unit, and the resultant increased demand identifies a shortage in the available electrical supply. This shortfall necessitates an upgrade of the existing low voltage electrical infrastructure and supporting on site generation systems.
