Description

Southampton City Council (the Council) is seeking a suitably experienced and qualified contractor to undertake weed spraying and control services to highways and footpaths across the Councils area of responsibility. The appointed contractor being expected to complete three (3) Weed Spraying applications per annum. The contract will be for a period of one (1) year with the option to extend at the sole discretion of the Council for a further period of up to 1 year. It is envisaged that the Contract will commence from April 2018. The amounts and figures stated here are for the initial contract period only and are indicative as the council cannot guarantee the exact levels of work that will be required. The area of highway/footway to be treated is approximately 562 km. (At the last centre-line measurement, the length of highway in Southampton was 562 kilometres, and recent measurement indicates that there are approximately 488,574m2 of other surfaces within the City that will require treatment). However, both these figures are indicative and should be viewed only as a guide figure; Contractors should acquaint themselves with Southampton's highways and infrastructure before supplying a price for this work. The map included in Annex C, illustrates the City boundary. Please be aware that prices supplied shall be to spray all highways within that boundary. The areas covered by this Contract include but are not limited to the following; kerb edges and channels, rear of footways and abutting brick, stone or other types of wall or fence, surfaced footways, traffic islands and splitter islands, paved roundabouts or paved sections of roundabouts, around the base of street furniture including safety fencing, pedestrian guard railing, tree bases on footways including raised cobbled areas, hard central reservations. The Council is also working to conform to the EU's proposals for the Water Framework Directive and the Sustainable Use of Pesticides Directive.
