Description
This is a project looking into causes and potential solutions to the rapid decline of mature and veteran oak trees at Moccas Park SSSI/NNR and Brampton Bryan SSSI, both of which are notified for saproxylic invertebrates found in their veteran and ancient trees. Trees at both sites are suffering from Acute Oak Decline (AOD) which threatens to damage the notified feature, resulting in decline of SSSI condition. Revolutionary and experimental work on reversing this disease has shown positive results under research conditions in Richmond Park, London. The work at Moccas Park and Brampton Bryan is joining in with a 4 year project established at Eastnor Park SSSI last year, which will enable us to establish appropriate responses to oak decline on a landscape scale.
