Description
The existing single-point laser vibrometer has limited capabilities that constrain its measurement range. It is primarily used for the measurement of vibration in large structures e.g. vehicles. A micro system analyser would enable enhanced measurements in a very wide range of applications at smaller and larger scales including electronic textiles (e.g. wearable technology), microelectromechanical systems (e.g. microspeakers/acoustic transducers), and medical implants (e.g. smart prosthetics). This equipment would also allows vibrations in micrometre and millimetre length scales to be measured over a broad frequency range. It may be applied to various applications e.g. rail or jet engine condition monitoring. Measurements of microspeaker performance will enable the optimisation of their size and audio quality for future mobile phones. Smart sensors and IoT system integration can be optimised by considering behaviour at different vibration levels. Observing behaviour at various reference points is crucial to evaluate the performance of the device and the quality of the manufacturing process. These measurements can feed into accurate models and data-driven design for real commercial/industrial applications.
