Description
In order to validate the European Space Agency's ExoMars platform it is necessary to conduct full field trials with an engineering model which represents the actual flight model (i.e. the platform which will go to Mars) as closely as possible. The instruments which the ExoMars robot will carry are built using various consortia across Europe, and in the case of the Panoramic Camera and Navigation system known as PanCam, Aberystwyth University is responsible for the emulator which is used to validate the actual flight instrument. This emulator called AUPE is the system which is needed to test the vision and navigation systems of the ExoMars validaton platform, which the UK Space Agency and STFC will conduct field trials with prior to the launch of actual mission in 2020.
